iPod XS proves small is sexy

Whoever said big is beautiful is wrong. The iPod XS proves it, the coin-sized audio player looking cooler than the nano despite being less than half the size. In fact it’s so small it’ll fit just about anywhere, comparable to a 10p piece albeit twice as thick. Unfortunately that means it’s just as easy to lose in a pocketful of change!
But before you get too excited and rush down to your nearest Apple store, the iPod XS is just a concept idea from the clever people over at Yanko Design. Shame, because we’d splash out on one straight away. Admittedly the design is a flawed – the screen is on the opposite side of the player to the controls, so you can skip tracks and look at what’s playing at the same time – but it’s still a stroke of design genius.

PSP heading for big screen

The reason I let the men in ours lives get a PSP in the first place was because they’d no longer hog the telly every night, instead playing for hours on end with their precious handhelds. Now the bods at Blaze have thwarted our plan by releasing the PSP TV projector. Damn their clever gadgets!Big-screen GTA: Liberty City Stories is on the cards when the projector is released in December, so any hope of catching every episode of ’Enders is gone.
There’s no point trying to convince him the projected picture quality won’t be great either, because he won’t believe you and will reclaim the telly anyway. Looks like sabotaging his PSP is your only option…

An Environmentally Tryke Built for Only a Few!

As the sale of SUV's decline in the United States and consumers are looking for more efficient and environmentally friendly ways to get around, Venture-One's three wheeled Hybrid and Electric Tryke ushers in a new era of transportation. The hybrid version gets 100 miles per gallon (which by far beats any SUV hands down) and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds which is very impressive. The price is $18,000 for the hybrid model and up to $23,000 for the all electric version. These vehicles may not have the room or girth of an SUV but it can be a sensible alternative for those who want to travel light and contribute to the well being of the environment. Look for the Tryke to hit the streets of California beginning next July.

Shield your eyes: pink PSP

Sony has teamed up with pop artist P!nk to released a new PSP for you to foist upon you enemies and burnout their retinas. Okay, maybe not but it’s pretty damn close. Mixing Food and Art With the Sheer Orb

I think that the Sheer Orb Island is clearly for those artsy types who enjoy creating their culinary delights under a shroud of secrecy of sorts or until you push the button to raise the top off of this smancy fancy gadget. When not in use the orb looks like a great big giant ball floating in the center of your kitchen. When closed, a warm amber light illuminates from this gadget to give off a warm ambiance. When the orb is open it features a built-in sink and cook top and has ample working space for you to prepare your meals and even sit down to enjoy them using the slide-out tabletops.

The Flybook PC Sports A Cool Display!

Nothing is as convenient as a laptop (be it a PC or even a Mac in our humble opinion). Also, something positive can be said about the first portable PC that has an extended monitor look. The Flybook VM from Dialog ($2,878) has an innovative design where the screen displays like a standard monitor. Thus, allow one to adjust the height according (how cool is that). Perhaps, it is safe to assume that other computer vendors will start to feature their renditions of this form-factor sooner or later. Which wouldn't be a bad thing!

Ceiva's Digital Photo Frames Put Fun Into Viewing Pics!

We really like Ceiva's Digital Photo frames! This by far is a very intuitive as well as ingenious way to share and to wirelessly broadcast pictures. Ceiva's new frames come with three free months of PicturePlan. This by far is a great way to share pictures with the grandparents and we think that these frames make an excellent stocking stuffer! The frames start at $150.

It's amazing how small gadgets continue to get. All packing more features and emerging technology. The innards of these devices are technological innovations too! Panasonic has created a tiny speaker, dubbed, "PED" (Panasonic Electronic Device). PED measures a mere 2 x 1 cm, and is only 1.5mm thick. These tiny speakers will make it's way into music phones and portable music players with external speakers, such as the Samsung K5. mStation's Orb Adds Style to Your iPod

The mStation 2.1. Stereo Orb ($149.95) kind of resembles those ball ornaments that adorn a Christmas tree. However, make no mistake about it, the Orb is an iPod Desktop Docking Station and Speaker system that packs 30 Watts of power (and that's not bad for a gadget of this size). The Orb has a dedicated sub woofer and also features a 10 Key IR Remote, and comes with a USB and Stereo Mini cables. The Orb is available in an assortment of colors to match the second generation iPod Nano's.

Linksys Launches iPhones

An Underwater Hotel--Coming Soon to a Lagoon!

Imagine having a hotel room with a view of the ocean. Now picture your room immersed in more than 40 feet of water, complete with a breath taking panoramic view of the ocean and it's tropical sea-life! And if a group of investors have their way, such a dream could be a reality. The locale of this hotel and underground live aquarium will be The Poseidon Mystery Island that is located in the Northern Lau group, in the northeastern section of Fiji. The 500-acre coral lagoon that surrounds the island has a depth of 90 feet, and the hotel will sit in about 40 feet of water and will boast individual suites as well as a library, a wedding chapel and a restaurant (no doubt this restaurant will be a five star offering). Additionally, guests will be able to scuba dive or take a cruise around the lagoon in either a 16-person submarine which is capable of 300-foot-depths. We can only surmise that with lofty plans like this, that such a hotel will be for the well-heeled and high-rollers of the world! No word yet as to when construction is suppose to begin on this man-made oasis nestled in mother nature's paradise!

Can You Guess Where The Music is Coming From?

The Soundolier wireless speaker lamp ($280 per lamp) adds style and functionality to your home theater system as well as to your iPod. The wireless speakers work in tandem with the Maestro wireless transmitter ($80, sold seperately) and are plugged into your receiver. There's also a plug located in the base of the lamp to accomodate your iPod. How cool is that! Just think when you have guests over, they will be wondering where the music is coming from! Heck, you just may want to make a game out of this too!

Windows Vista Anyone?

Microsoft will be officially kicking off the worldwide release of its Windows Vista Operating System as well as Microsoft Office 2007 on January 30th here in the states. And to mark the launch of Microsoft's first OS in five years, Chairman of Microsoft, Bill Gates will be kicking off an event in New York City's Time Square today as well as appearing on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The PC guy who appears in the Apple TV ads, John Hodgman is also scheduled to be on the Daily Show. Other events include a live web-cast today with Bill Gates at 1:45 p.m. PST (4:45 p.m. EST).

With the Windows Operating System software running on 90 percent of computers worldwide, the question is will folks want to pony up hundreds of dollars to purchase Vista (Vista is available in several flavors all with varying prices of $100 to $400) and is Ultvisupgrd it really worth it? Additionally, a few computer manufacturers are already taking pre-orders for computers that will include Vista. Honestly, this Windows software launch pales in comparison to those of the pass. When Microsoft launched Windows XP five years ago this event was by invitation only where Microsoft filled up rented movie theaters all across the US and the world where excitement and buzz filled the air. There appears to be none of that this time around. Windows Vista has already officially launched in Japan and Australia. Also, here in the states, Comp-USA will stay open past midnight on January 30 to usher in the launch of Windows Vista. And for those of you yearning to grab your limited edition Bill Gates autographed copy of Windows Ultimate, Amazon.com will be more than happy to take your orders (no price was available at the time of this post for this limited edition).

X Mods The Spot?

People constantly complain about the quality of MP3's, but even CD's are only 16-bit. Upsample your digital music to 24-bit fidelity with Creative's Xmod ($80) which goes between your PC or Mac and your headphones. It also claims to be able to aptly identify a cymbal crash or a bass drum kick thus applying targeted restorations to rebuild sound lost during compression. Could the Xmod be nothing more than just a sound enhancer? Hmm, the jury is still out. We invite you to share your thoughts!

The Mopels are shaped like small animals or anthropomorphic figures and they're small and flexible lighting fixtures that attach to almost anything with their suction cups or tiny magnetic feet. The light comes from 100,000-hour LEDS which has been estimated to run for an amazingly 100 hours on only three rechargeable AAA batteries. And when the battery power runs out, simply plug them into a USB port of a PC or Mac. There are several styles of Mopels going for $25 each. Now, you don't have any excuse for not being able to complete that essay!

The T-Press Robot

Robots are very useful to man kind and they are worth their weight in gold especially if they are able to assist one with mundane tasks such as ironing. Once this is done just press a button and the T-Press will take care of the rest! Imagine not having to iron out or in creases (this gadget has a selector for crease or non crease). Life doesn't get any better than this! No further details were given on the cost or the availability of this device. This is one robot that will be well received!

Your Doctor is Watching You

It's amazing and very encouraging on the number of technology advances that are being made in the health care-medical industry everyday. Especially, when those technologies are directly associated with humans because that makes it even better! Pretty soon people with pacemakers won't need to visit their doctors to give them an update on how their pacemakers are performing because your doctor will be able to remotely check-in. The Latitude system is a new type of defibrillator that monitors a variety of stats, such as weight, blood pressure and heart rate. Also, doctors can remotely request and obtain data without requiring a face-to-face appointment. Not to be a kill-joy about this, but one can only suspect that there will be privacy issues associated with gathering such personal info. And obviously this info will be encrypted. Let's hope that these avenues have been addressed.

Computer Mouse with Swimming Fishies

I’ve never been successful with having pets as fish, they cant seem to survive a month under my care. I either over feed them or under feed them, or they’ll just randomly commit suicide by jumping out of the tank. After some time I came to terms with the fact that fish and I dont mix. So it seems that the closest I’ll ever get to having fish as pets is in a computer mouse. Yep, there is something fishy going on with these USB optical mice , literally. The see-through mice are filled with liquid and swimming plastic fishes. They retail for $16.99 each.

Visomate USB Vision and Posture Reminder keeps you in check

Finally a USB gadget is here that is concerned about the fitness as well as wellbeing of the entire blogging community! May God Bless Him (who has created nifty this device). I am well aware of the fact that working on the computer with an erroneous posture will lead to threatening consequences for my eyes as well as spine. But drowned deep in work, all these threats peter out. Visomate USB Vision and Posture Reminder is like a smart watch-dog that will remind you with flashing LEDs and chimes once you are closer than the recommended visual distance (35cm) from the monitor. After all monitors also need their personal space! No sirens or shrills….just a simple LED will start flashing. Once you’ve leaned to close, you’ll notice a red LED flashing and all you have to do is sit back. Once back in the “safe zone” a solid blue LED will go on.However, I hope I don’t develop immunity to the blue and red LED lights over a period!

Emergency Phone Charger So That They’ll Never Be Able To Say “My Phone Was Dead”

It’s happened to each and every one of us. Dead cell phone and no where to charge it. How many times did it happen to you while you needed to make or receive “that special call”. And sometimes, even asking strangers for help isn’t an option. We’ve found the phone emergency charger to help save the day. This nifty gizmo is both functional and slick. And it’s also rather inexpensive going for around $9. This is the most compact charger we’ve seen operated by an AA battery - you get around 2 hours of extra talking time per battery. You also receive 4 adapters, so you could hook it up to all of your phones. Do you have a friend whose phone is always “dead”? Give them on of those. Also you can get on of these for your girlfriend/boyfriend so you don’t to hear the “my-phone’s-battery-was-dead” excuse ever again. Just make sure you always carry plenty of AA batteries along if you decide to get this device.

i.Master Waste Bin is a Waste

What is it that makes i.Master so much smarter than all its fellow waste bin buddies? It combines "modern infrared-technology with the classic Kickmaster-design and thus offers highest convenience and easy handling." What this means is that when a person's hand approaches the top of the bin, its infrared sensors are activated to automatically open the lid. It is indeed pretty convenient, but as far as I'm concerned, not worth $332.00.

A Lexus from Minority Report on eBay for $88,000

A car from future up for auction! Sounds incongruous, right? In the year 2054, some cars will be self-cleaning, some will drive in an accident free system, and some will change colors on command. At least that was the vision of the future in Steven Spielberg's film "Minority Report," starring Tom Cruise. He had cast the luxury auto brand Lexus as the car of the future in this movie. The inspiration behind the car was a vehicle that would fit the requirements of the year 2054, but beneath the futuristic design is a standard Chevy V6 and conventional manual gearbox. Fancy driving like Tom Cruise in Lexus? Yeah, this specific car was on sale on eBay for a price of $88,000. (Sad to say but it’s no more on the site). According to the seller, the 2054 model-year car, which is one of only three made by Lexus, is about the same size as a Chrysler 300 and has only 38 miles on it since it was built. Curiously, it boasts a six-cylinder Chevy engine--which is 47,000 miles old--and comes with a manual transmission. The ad suggested that the fiberglass and steel car is probably street legal, but advises potential buyers to check local regulations on open-wheel cars.

Form and function combine in a beautiful way in the JBL Spyro Speaker System ($130). This three piece setup has a curvacious subwoofer and a set of daisy-looking satellite speakers. Like other JBL products, the Spyro puts out a great sound from devices such as an iPod which connect via a stereo mini jack. Easy to use touch controls help manage volume and more.
